The Pittnauers have their vineyards and winery in Gols, a small town on Lake Neusiedl in the Burgenland wine region of Austria. Gerhard inherited the vineyard at only 18 years old when his father died unexpectedly, and took somewhat of an experimental approach with no set winemaking philosophy in the beginning. What he learned along the way, though, was that his favorite wines to drink all had one thing in common: biodynamics. After having figured this out, Gerhard and Brigitte adopted this approach to winemaking in 2006, doing all work in the vineyards manually, and not conforming to a calendar but instead letting the grapes and winemaking take their time, resulting in what they call ‘living wine’. Also in 2007, together with other winemakers, the Pittnauers co-founded 'Respect', an international group of leading biodynamic wineries. The Pittnauers focus on manual work in the vineyards, limiting yields, to ensure in the healthiest grapes possible. In the cellar, they refrain from using enzymes, pure yeasts and excessive use of wood in their wines. |
As pioneers of the natural wine movement, Gerhard and Brigitte Pittnauer produce wines that are a genuine expression of their vineyard’s terroir. Embracing organic and biodynamic practices resulting in healthier and more flavourful fruit. With minimal intervention in the cellar, their wines undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, preserving authenticity. Their wines show an
amazing balance between exotic aromas and great minerality on their white and orange wines. The red wines are balanced with the right amount of fruit, tannins and not too much acidity.
A fresh, vibrant orange wine at the fun end of the skin-contact spectrum! Made from grüner veltliner, pinot blanc and chardonnay and fermented in barriques and amphorae, it`s bursting with tropical-fruit, blossom and orange-peel aromas, a hint of honey, lots of grip but plenty of freshness. It's unfiltered and so hazy.
Warm red fruit, pomegranate, subtle spice and raspberries. Over time, some aromas fade away, others emerge - wine as a living product, a rosé that changes and invites you to drink mindfully.
The Rosé by Nature from Pittnauer is a cuvée made from 90% Blaufränkisch, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon. It tickles the palate with surprising aromas and natural carbon dioxide. An exciting world of taste that rose completely reinvents. Here, the name speaks for itself because there is 100 percent nature in the bottle. Spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, no sulfur, enzymes and filtration bring out exciting aromas. Currant, blood orange, pomegranate, strawberry, raspberry, autumn apple and herbs. The velvety texture creates a compact and elegant image, provides a lot of fun and energy in the glass. An intense rosé with great drinking flow.
Tropical driven profile with extra notes of salt, lime and grapefruit peel. WE LOVE IT!
